This past week, my mother and I spent six days in Paris, France. For her it was a trip to celebrate her 60th birthday and for me it was a celebration trip for (1) graduating with my Doctorate in August 2023, (2) getting promoted at work and (3) all the personal growth I’ve experienced as a result of my commitment to doing the hard work of inner healing over the past six years of my life. God has been faithful throughout our journey’s so what better way to celebrate than to book a trip to one of the world’s most beautiful cities?
Towards the end of our trip there, the Lord began speaking to me about doors. Paris is full of gorgeous doors that began to stand out more to me when He said “Pay attention to the doors you see around you.” As I did, not only did I begin to see the commonalities and differences between them, but I also began to hear His heart concerning this season of time that we are entering.
Some of the doors I found were tall and wide, others were short and narrow. Many were made of wood while others were made of glass and metal. Some doors were elegant and maintained well while others were not. As I saw the differences in these doors, I was reminded of Matthew 7:14 which says “ For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few be they that find it.”
How easy is it for one to miss the gate that leads to eternal life due to a lack of discernment.
It was then that the Lord began to show me what He was communicating to me through these doors.
We have entered into the season of the door where different doors of opportunities will be presented before us. In Scripture, doors represent an opening that provides a person with entry into a room, moment or opportunity. They are gates that transition a person from one place, to the next. Ultimately, doors give access. Spiritually speaking, a door can be good or bad depending on the purpose it is meant to serve in a life.
Each door that will be presented to us in this season is unique in its function and requires prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit to discern whether it should be opened, closed, accepted or rejected.
5 Major Door Types of This Season
The Door of Intimacy
The Open Door No Man Can Shut
The Door of Glory
The Door of Past Things
The Door of Temptation
The Door of Intimacy
In Revelation 3:20, Jesus states that He stands at the door and knocks, awaiting someone to hear Him and respond. In this season, Jesus is presenting a door before us that leads to deeper intimacy and communion with Him. This door calls for sensitivity to His voice, His presence and guidance. Those who respond to the knock on this door will be filled and satisfied in Him.
For many, this door of intimacy will also translate to their human relationships. Those who have been waiting for both platonic and romantic kingdom partnerships, God is making introductions between individuals and groups through this door. “For I am setting the lonely in families and providing godly companionship to those who have been in waiting,” says the Lord.
The Open Door That No Man Can Shut

To the faithful, the Lord is presenting an open door of reward for their obedience, endurance and courage (Revelation 3:8). To those who have followed Jesus into the unknown, who have relied on His Spirit and have been mocked for their loyalty to His Word and Spirit, He has taken note of it all and He will reward you.
In Hebrews 11:6 it says “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. To those who have been obedient to God’s Word and voice and those who have sought Him diligently, by faith receive your reward from Him through this door.
The assurance we have from God is that this open door is one that despite the efforts of Satan and man, no one can shut or delay. God Himself is opening this door and no one can stop, delay or change what He has prepared for you in this season. To the faithful, God says “it’s time—receive your reward—my promise to you and your inheritance in me.”
The Door of Glory
The third door that the Lord is presenting to us in this season is the door of glory. This is the door that will usher in new and unusual experiences in His presence. The Lord wills that we experience the weight of His presence and His splendor. For it is in His presence that we are changed, fulfilled and filled.
In this season, the Lord is presenting this door to those who choose to abandon the familiar and shallow waters that religious spirits are married to. There are individuals and groups, nations and regions that are hungry for the deep. They are unsatisfied with gathering without experiencing the presence of God fill the room—they want to experience the fullness of God’s presence and glory.
In this season we will see God respond to the hunger for more of Him that is present in the earth, with His glory. Visible results of walking through these doors will be (1) miracles, signs and wonders, (2) the conversion of souls from darkness to light and (3) radical reconciliation between individuals and people groups who were estranged. “For those who seek me and desire more of my presence, get ready—you shall be presented with this door of glory.”
The Door of Past Things
In this season, the enemy of your soul will also present doors to steal, kill and destroy you. The first is the door of past things which can come in three ways:
This door may come as memories of people and experiences that were intended to derail you from the plans and purpose of God for you. By getting you to harp on the past and the things you’ve lost, he seeks to steal your peace and sobriety to make sound decisions in this season. “Beware of the lure to rehash past things that have been put to death, for it is a scheme of the enemy to derail your focus.”
This door may also be presented to you as people or opportunities from your past trying to regain access to your life. Be sober and vigilant concerning what and who you allow access to your life in this season. For the enemy would love to reconnect you to the old as a way to hinder your participation in the new that God has for you (Isaiah 43:18-19). As a way to safeguard your future, be prayerful concerning old people or opportunities that resurface in this season.
Satan will also try to lure you to walk through this door by sending new relationships or opportunities that have been sent with the sole purpose of pulling you into old ways of thinking and being. “Beware and be vigilant” the Spirit of Grace says. “For only those who walk intimately with me will be able to discern Satan’s schemes and keep the door of past things closed.”
The Door of Temptation
The second door that the enemy will present in this season is the door of temptation. This is a door sent to misalign your steps and cause you to forfeit your obedience to God and His Spirit. Not only will this door present temptations according to your own desires (James 1:14) but it will also present the temptation to accept counterfeits.
Satan tries to replicate that which comes from God by ways of manipulation and perversion. If the Lord is opening doors that will lead to abundance and us experiencing his mercy and goodness, Satan will present counterfeit doors of opportunities that are only perverted versions of doors from the Lord. Satan’s purpose with these doors is to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10) with them.
Jesus is warning his children to be prayerful in all things and seasons (1 Thessalonians 5:17) so that they don’t fall victim to this trap sent to delay their lives and separate them from His goodness.
How to Respond to This Word
Whenever we read or hear a prophetic word, it is our job to (1) test what has been spoken or written (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21) and (2) respond in a way that causes us to align with what the Lord is communicating.
5 Ways to Respond to This Word
Confess your sins & repent. Unconfessed sin dulls our discernment and sensitivity to God’s voice. In this season we need renewed sensitivity to God’s Spirit in order to discern which door type is before us.
Lay down your idols. These are people, places and things that have taken God’s place in your life. We need to lay down what has taken up His space and give Him access to be Lord over all arenas of our lives again.
Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you. We need the Holy Spirit to guide us in our decision making and to sharpen our discernment so that we won’t be deceived. Invite Him to play that role in your life, today.
Seek God in all things. Through prayer and fasting, seek the Lord for guidance, wisdom and understanding of His will.
Present doors of opportunities to wise, Christian counsel. Proverbs 11:14 says “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” God has intended for us to walk through life in community so that we can be safe from deception and ensnarement from the enemy. In this season, seek counsel from your godly community for support in discerning how to respond to the doors of opportunities that are presented to you.
My prayer for all of you reading this word is that you would be led by the Spirit of God in this season and all those to come. May your steps align with His direction and may you find yourself walking through the doors that He has ordained for you to.
